The Hives Cover Zero Boys’ “Civilizations Dying” at Germany’s Biggest Music Festival

The Hives, best known for their trademark black and white uniforms, blistering live performances, and hits like “Hate to Say I Told You So” and “Main Offender” apparently know their punk history as well. Last weekend they performed at Rock am Ring (Rock in the Ring) and Rock im Park (Rock in the Park) Germany’s largest music festival and one of the world’s largest with over 85,000 people attending this year. The Hives performance was live broadcast on MTV Germany and included a killer cover of Zero Boys’ “Civilizations Dying” from their album Vicious Circle (reissued by Secretly Canadian last year). Check out the video after the jump and see vintage footage of Indiana’s punk legends Zero Boys performing the original at the Pizza Castle in Indianapolis circa 1981.
