ALBUM ANNOUNCE // Electric Youth Announce New Album ‘Innerworld’ Out September 30th US / 29th EU

If you missed it a few weeks ago we welcomed Toronto based duo of of Bronwyn Griffin and Austin Garrick, known as Electric Youth, to the SC family. We also premiered the video for “Innocence” that you can watch on YouTube / Vevo. Today the group reveals the details on their SC album debut Innerworld out September 30th / 29th in the EU.

Pre-order it directly via SC Distribution, iTunes, Amazon, and your local record store.

The new album came together between the duo’s home studio in Los Angeles, where all the vocals were laid down, and their Toronto studio, where Austin’s vintage synth collection was used to assemble more than have of the beautiful analog sounds on the new record. In LA, the band constantly projected old films while recording, all having influences on different songs from the release. Heavenly Creatures by Peter Jackson inspired “Runaway” directly while other films like Metropolis, City of God, After Hours, and Videodrome had profound effects on the environment and feel of the album.

Electric Youth will play the Leeds Festival and Reading Festival this summer before touring extensively this fall. More dates will be announced soon.

WATCH // Woman’s Hour Share “Conversations” Video Via FADER, New ‘Conversations’ Album Out July 21st (15th US)

London four-piece Woman’s Hour have released a new music video for ‘Conversations’, the title-track from their debut album released 21st July (15th US) on Secretly Canadian. Premiering via FADER this morning, Watch the video above or here on their YouTube / Vevo.

Directed by Frank and Jane, the video follows the beautiful monochrome aesthetic shown by the band on previous videos and their album art. The new video is their take on ‘Group Primary Accumulation’ (1973), a performance piece by the celebrated American choreographer Trisha Brown. “We are four non-dancers engaged in a conversation with ourselves. Separately together. The video highlights this isolation. Four people silently moving in sync.” says lead singer Fiona Burgess, who came across the piece while touring in America earlier this year.

Pre-order Conversations via iTunes, Amazon, SC Distribution / deluxe bundle, and your local record store.

See the band this summer play festivals including Field Day this weekend, Bestival, Green Man and Latitude. In September they then play their biggest London headline show to date on September 23rd at Village Underground.

LISTEN // Tomas Barfod Shares Beacon’s Remix of “Busy Baby”, New Album ‘Love Me’ Out June 10th

Tomas Barfod has shared Beacon‘s [Ghostly International] remix of latest single “Busy Baby”. Listen to the remix above or on our Soundcloud / YouTube.

Pre-order Love Me now via SC Distribution, iTunes, Amazon, and your local record store.

On the remix Tomas writes:

“It’s always fun to get a remix back from somebody, it’s like unwrapping a present when you receive the link for the file, and wait for the music to download. Sometimes the remixer totally messes the original, other times it’s a new little peace of art. Beacon succeded to change the track completely yet keeping a lot of the elements from the original, which is a really hard task. I’m thrilled about their approach.”

Beacon adds:

“A bit about our process: We like to send mixed messages to our synths…confuse them in a way. We will have the pc tell them to do one thing and simultaneously the internal computer inside the synths do another. The results always tend to surprise us and take chords in interesting directions. But its also frustrating and unreliable. Multiple takes, fingers crossed hoping the synth does something special. that’s the treatment we gave Barfod’s chords. you hear it start our remix, notes we’ve chopped and wrangled, dancing between the L and R mix. When it came to the vocals, we decided to use Nina’s voice more as an instrument, floating around, landing every once in a while to check in.

Also today on Vice‘s site THUMP you can hear an exclusive mix Tomas made featuring his favorite house classics. Listen to the mix on their Soundcloud here.
