Watch: New Video for The War on Drugs’ “Brothers”

The War on Drugs – Brothers from Secretly Jag on Vimeo.

The War On Drugs are excited to share the brand new video for “Brothers,” one of the many highlights off their stellar Slave Ambient. Following the more kaleidoscopic videos for “Baby Missiles” and “Come to the City,” the “Brothers” video, which premiered this morning via New York Magazine’s Vulture, definitely takes a different approach with its bleak western narrative. More on the “Brothers” video from the director team of Brewer, a pair of brothers (Ben and Alex), actually, is below.

“We kept picturing it as the soundtrack to a dark western like Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid or Unforgiven. That is where the deranged T.V cowboy character came from. We wanted the video to feel like the most exciting five minutes taken out of a longer movie. The biggest challenge in the filming was how to make the old cowboy (played by David Weindel) seem threatening, and how to make the nurse (played by Tallie Medel) seem like she was dealing with the situation the way a normal person might really handle such a nightmare.”

In case you missed it, The War On Drugs played a pretty damn perfect performance of “Baby Missiles” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon a couple of weeks ago for their late night TV debut, complete with two drummers, including special guest, ?uestlove, and dueling keyboards. After five solid months of touring, and several more on the horizon (full schedule HERE), this domination by the ‘Drugs was by no means a fluke!

The War On Drugs’ “Come to the City” 7-inch single is available this week on Secretly Canadian. Listen to the b-side, “Don’t Fear The Ghost”-HERE.

Watch The War On Drugs on Pitchfork.tv

Pitchfork.tv caught The War On Drugs in New York earlier this year. Check out an absolutely transcending live performance of “Come to the City” off of this year’s Slave Ambient along with a great interview with the band, and intro from front man Adam Granduciel. The War On Drugs are on the home stretch of their current North American tour that’ll finish up with two shows: Dec. 12 in New York opening for The National at Beacon Theatre and a hometown show with fellow Phiadelphians Sun Airway at Union Transfer on Dec. 17. After the holidays you’ll be able to catch The War On Drugs in Europe in February and on tour with Sharon Van Etten starting in March. Check out the full tour dates HERE. Spin.com has a great retrospective of The War On Drugs’ touring exploits this year with photos taken by WOD bassist Dave Hartley who captures some brilliant moments.

The War On Drugs Announce 2012 Tour Dates with Sharon Van Etten. New Come to the City 7-inch Single Out in January

With touring dates yet to come in 2011, The War On Drugs are already casting big plans for 2012. After a February spent touring Europe The War On Drugs will set their sights on America, touring the West on a truly epic bill with Sharon Van Etten. With their new album Slave Ambient receiving the coveted “Best New Music” and already a front runner for one of 2011′s albums of the year, The War On Drugs have been heavily praised for their recorded material. Live the band continues to cast a spell creating “a magical wormhole out of electricity, muscle and faded blue jeans” (LA Times). It’s a performance that “not only lives up to the hype behind the new album; but definitely surpasses it” (Jambase). The Minneapolis City Pages upon seeing WOD live simply stated:
“The War On Drugs… confidently delivered one of the best shows of the year.” Catch the War On Drugs in December in the Midwest and East with newly annouced opener Sub Pop recording artist Still Corners; and starting today you can purchase tickets for WOD’s March tour with Sharon Van Etten. Check out the full tour dates RIGHT HERE.

In other news, January 24 The War On Drugs will release the new Come to the City 7-inch single, featuring the sprawling centerpiece to Slave Ambient with the previously unreleased “Don’t Fear the Ghost” b-side.

Urban Outfitters Premieres the Video for The War on Drugs’ “Come To The City”

The War on Drugs – “Come to the City” (Official Music Video) from Urban Outfitters on Vimeo.

Today, Urban Outfitters premiered the video for The War on Drugs’ charging, triumphant “Come to the City” from the band’s excellent forthcoming sophomore album Slave Ambient. It follows a gang of Los Angelenas doing some wilding on the outskirts of LA. The video was produced by Urban Outfitters and directed by Peter J. Brant. Video Fun Fact: One of the women who appears in the video is a former resident of our hometown, Bloomington, Ind.

Today through the release of Slave Ambient, UO will also be exclusively hosting a stream of the entire album. You can hear why UK’s Uncut, in a five-star review of the album, said: “Granduciel’s burgeoning compositional skills and his vast attention to intricately wrought sonic structures make Slave Ambient rich with things money alone can’t buy — wit, imagination, ambition, excitement, that kind of thing. It’s a thrill. Something’s happening wherever you turn on tracks that are dense with detail and brilliant accumulations of incident, but never overwrought or too busy, sheer grace their common link.”

The War on Drugs release “Come to the City” MP3, Slave Ambient Pre-Order Madness Begins

The War On Drugs’ sprawling Slave Ambient is out August 16 on Secretly Canadian. Following the release of the instant classic “Baby Missiles” we now share with you the album’s centerpiece “Come to the City” in which head honcho Adam Granduciel takes the show to the next level. It’s a modern American outsider classic; a straight-up jam. All goosebumps and fist pumps; and Granduciel howling and moaning over his epic, phased Firebird guitars.

“Come to the City” also happens to include what very well may be my favorite The War on Drugs lyric: “Drinking up all the sweet tea/It was made/Just for me.” CLAZZIG.

LISTEN TO “COME TO THE CITY”

Slave Ambient is also now available for pre-order, the first 75 vinyl orders of which will receive the limited-run oh-so-fancy ruby red LP version of the record (see the sweet pic below). There are also several great War on Drugs catalogue bundle deals. Get it all HERE.
