Dungeonesse Sign to Secretly Canadian, Share Video for First Single

Jenn Wasner and Jon Ehrens bring you their new pop project Dungeonesse and we could not be more stoked to announce them as our newest signee! You’ll recognize Jenn from Wye Oak and Flock of Dimes, Jon Ehrens from White Life and Art Department. Dungeonesse was forged out of a mutual admiration for Top 40 and R&B, as well as the mechanics of what makes a hit song. Jenn says of the project, “Something that Jon and I talk about a lot is the idea of reclaiming pop music; placing it squarely in the hands of, I dunno, say a couple of regular nerds from Baltimore.”

We have the perfect video for their debut single “Drive You Crazy.” Directed by Matthew Yake, the video was filmed at Baltimore’s Nudashank Gallery during a Dungeonesse dance party. Enjoy above or at The Fader. You can expect their debut full-length in 2013. Until then, pick up a copy of the “Drive You Crazy” b/w “Private Party” 12″ at SC Distribution.

BLK JKS collab on Domus mixtape, available at FADER

BLK JKS

FADER has just posted a stream of the new Domus mixtape, curated by BLK JKS and visual artist Athi-Patra Ruga to give the listener an authentic taste of Johannesburg. The stream is part of a series by Daniel Perlin, who goes by DJ N-RON. The band, who officially participated as BLKJKSSNDSYSTM, offered this statement:

“There is a lot of talk about what Johannesburg is, what it was and what it is becoming. It is a city in, perhaps eternal, transition. This is a privilege for us, the people who call it ours. We can make Johannesburg whatever we want it to be. The city is here, asking us to shape it. While some look to European cities and envy their long established routines, venues and structures in the arts, there are those of us who see the blank canvas and embrace it. We see what we want our city to be, we see it’s place in the world, and we see the importance of our contributions. We have a dream and we want to make it reality.”

You can read about the whole thing on FADER here or stream it on the Domus site here.

BLK JKS also recently played the enormous Rock al Parque festival in Bogota, Colombia over July 4th weekend. Rock al Parque, widely considered one of the most important rock festivals in Latin America, attracted over 336,000 attendees this year. BLK JKS were joined on the bill by punk legends Dead Kennedys and DRI as well as a myriad of international acts like Buraka Som Sistema (Portugal), Delorean (Spain) and Colombia natives Bomba Estereo.

David Vandervelde: New King of the Summer Jam

SC218

David Vandervelde is on an absolute songwriting tear right now, churning out these magma nuggets of summers present like a young man possessed. It’s as if the teenagers in Footloose locked into a deep bliss-metal and glam kick, and Vandervelde threw the bomb-ass after-prom kegger at his pad. Today, FADER premiered “Checkin’ Out My Baby,” the latest digital single from Vanderland. Now available via most any digital music retailer, “Checkin’ Out My Baby” is three and half minutes stomping, fuzzy pop, full of glammy falsetto and joyous shredding. With these new gems, FADER noted that Vandervelde “has managed to make music that evokes multiple decades, multiple drugs and all the good parts of being a cocky teenager.” We’re all in.

Later this month, Vandervelde begins a tour in which he’ll be sharing a few bills with Black Mountain and a cross-country tour with Delta Spirit. Peep all those dates HERE.
