ALBUM STREAM // Luke Temple Releases New Video For “Florida” On MOKB, New Album ‘Good Mood Fool’ Streaming Now on HypeMachine

Today the new video for “Florida” premiered on My Old Kentucky Blog! The video, which was featured in VEVO‘s Indie Wednesday showcase, is directed by Kris Moyes who has worked with Grizzly Bear, Kirin J Callinan, Sia, and more. Watch the video above or on VEVO here and then read Luke’s artist statement on the video.

On the video, Temple has released the following artist statement:

“There have been 70,000+ deaths related to the Mexican drug cartels since 2006.

The Unites States is, by far, the largest market for cocaine use in the world with roughly 16% of its population using the drug.
New Zealand is second at roughly 4%
Mexico itself hovers around 2%.
They supply it, we buy it.

Being a musician I have been around my share of the stuff and can say that there is an absolute disconnect from the reality of what is being supported by the purchase of cocaine.

Our privilege and relative comfort can make it hard to look outside of our immediate gratification.

It seems almost impossible to exist without being an indirect aid to the exploitation of those less fortunate but we can at least start with the glaringly obvious.

It’s absolutely not worth just being able to party for another few hours.”

VIDEO VIDEO // Cayucas Premiere “High School Lover” at SPIN, Announce Debut Album ‘BIGFOOT’ – Out April 30

Cayucas are coming at you with their awesome new video for “High School Lover,” starring lead singer Zach Yudin and his band: Ben Yudin on bass (twin brother to Zach), Banah Winn on keys and Casey Wojtalewicz on drums. Missing in the action is guitar player Christian Koons. Although the video isn’t a complete narrative, Director Cameron Dutra called on the song’s origin when putting it all together. He tells us “‘High School Lover’ is about a girl who would write Zach love letters, yet he would never respond despite actually liking her back. I tried to abstract the idea of a high school girl’s notebook with doodles and sketches into stop motion graphics and titles.” Watch above!

“High School Lover” is found on Cayucas’s debut album, Bigfoot – out officially on April 30! Check out the album artwork above and the tracklisting below! Bigfoot was produced by none other than Richard Swift (record at his studio too!).

Jens Lekman Announces New Album, “I Know What Love Isn’t”

Jens Lekman announces his first full length in five years! Titled I Know What Love Isn’t, it’s the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Night Falls Over Kortedala. The album is out on September 4.

The opening track sets the stage for what’s to come: a simple melody picked out on an echoey upright piano, like a disused one you might find in a schoolroom or church. The tune, “Every Little Hair Knows Your Name” is bittersweet but gentle, with a sustain that fades into the acoustic guitar and twinkling flourish of chimes on “Erica America,” the album’s first single – listen below.

See Jens on tour! Dates listed HERE.

Exitmusic Announces New Album, Title Track Available For Download

We’ve got some incredibly exciting news. Exitmusic has a brand new full-length and it’s out May 22nd. Titled Passage, it’s the much anticipated followup to their debut EP, From Silence. Earlier this morning, KEXP premiered the title track, saying “what defines Exitmusic is their epic songwriting style that is 100% evident in their new single ‘Passage.’”

Recorded at Rare Book Room in Brooklyn with mixer Nicholas Vernhes (Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter), Church and Palladino, along with the assistance of new bandmates drummer Dru Prentiss and engineer Nicholas X, built on the chilling, beautiful aesthetic they had created as a duo when recording at home. The result is a sound that is more powerful and more nuanced, covering broad oceans of emotional terrain.

Opener and title track “Passage” is like watching a great shifting of tides through rapid time-lapse photography, introducing new dynamics in one magnificent breath. It is a statement of intent that tears down the Victorian boudoir gauze found on previous efforts. The ghosts are still piercing the veil, but now they’re throwing chairs. The song begins gently, with candlelight piano plucks, distant explosions on the horizon, aching breaths and moans. But in moments, the oceans swell and lurch as it detonates into a shower of brilliant shrapnel.

Passage is a long time in the making, and certainly worth the wait. Listen and download the title track below.

Exitmusic kicks off their tour Tuesday, February 28th at Mercury Lounge in New York. See full list of dates HERE.
