A Must Read: Porcelain Raft Shares Intimate Details of Touring Past

Recently published in The Stool Pigeon, Picture Book: Porcelain Raft gives us an intimate look at several points during a musician’s touring life. A handful of anecdotes highlight each chosen photo. In his own words, Mauro Remiddi, otherwise known as the man behind Porcelain Raft, shares of his travels and feelings often experienced while touring alone. George Clooney, The Antlers, Italy and Blonde Redhead all make an appearance in what appears to be a very interesting and fruitful career.

Perhaps most intriguing is his stay in North Korea during 1992. Remiddi and his band at the time were invited to participate in The Spring Festival, where they would play their own songs and also interpret traditional Korean songs to fit into a more modern realm. Remiddi writes, “We were not allowed to move on stage, people at that time had never seen a man with an electric guitar moving on stage before. Our performances, and other country’s performances (we were representing Italy, of course) were broadcast on the national television. That was the only time North Koreans could see a western face.” Remiddi goes on to explain some of the restrictions put on North Koreans during this time and how these constraints affected his band. To learn more about Mauro Remiddi and view Picture Book: Porcelain Raft in its entirety, head to The Stool Pigeon.

Porcelain Raft Has a New Video for “Put Me To Sleep,” Featuring A Lot of Milk

I think milk is completely disgusting. Yogurt is awesome and I can safely say a bulk of my grocery budget in the last month has gone to cheese, but I can’t do milk…unless it’s being used as a prop in a music video! Porcelain Raft’s Mauro Remiddi made this creepily awesome video for the band’s song “Put Me To Sleep,” in which he fidgets, rolls around and sings in a bathtub of milk.

Porcelain Raft To Deliver ‘Strange Weekend’ Jan. 24, Tours With M83

It feels funny to say that Strange Weekend is Porcelain Raft’s debut record because, in many ways it’s his 156th. Mauro Remiddi has lived three musician’s lives at this point. Wether it’s been traveling with the Berlin Youth Circus playing gypsy Klezmer music, a stint playing piano Off Broadway, or reinterpreting traditional music in North Korea — Remiddi has constantly been moving and recording. With Porcelain Raft, he’s finally found a constant. Big emotional music focused on tiny fleeting moments of the right now.
