LISTEN // Gardens & Villa’s ‘Music For Dogs’ Now Streaming On Noisey, Album Out Aug. 21st

Gardens & Villa’s new album, Music For Dogs, is now streaming via Noisey. It’ll be up until the record’s release next Friday, August 21st via Secretly Canadian. And if you haven’t yet watched Maximize, a short film about the band’s new record by director David Del Sur and cinematographer SL Perlin, please do so above!

“We thought the label would drop us.. Our girlfriends dropped us. Our drummer of six years left. We were broke and we sort of came home with a feeling of “is this the end?” That’s when Adam and I decided to move to LA and give it one last hurrah. We felt like we wanted to go out with a bang and make the album we always wanted to make! For us and for the sake of love and fun. We immediately started recording demos and sent them to our label desperately hoping they would finance us and give us another chance. I remember when we showed them the demos of Everybody” and “Fixations” and they kind of freaked out. We wanted to redeem ourselves and everything sort of fell into place! We discovered a lot and fell back in love with the craft. We tracked most of the record live, to tape (like our first LP), and did almost all of it in seven days. So happy to get it out there.”
Chris Lynch (of Gardens & Villa)

Gardens & Villa will begin their U.S. tour in mid-September, with performances spanning three months and the entire country. All tour dates are below.

LISTEN // Gardens & Villa Share Track “Everybody” Via Stereogum, Album ‘Music For Dogs’ Out 8/21

While the release of Gardens & Villa new album, Music For Dogs, is still a few weeks away, you can now alleviate the pains of waiting with their new single, “Everybody”, via Stereogum. Coating social commentary in undulating piano, the song broaches the subject of social dissipation in a digitized world, hinting at a desire for something more real. ‘“Everybody” is a song inspired by our modern love lives,” says Gardens & Villa’s Chris Lynch. “Technology fueled jealousy, lust, vanity, voyeurism, and network personas, topped off with a personal curiosity and willingness to participate in what often resembles science fiction.” As with each song on Music For Dogs, Everybody aligns with Gardens & Villa search for unison between intimacy and personhood. Check out “Everybody” above or via Stereogum.

A sublime journey Its no small feat to make rock music sound this fresh nowadays. Amid the hordes of bands pulling the same old tired moves, thank God for The War On Drugs’
Time Out 5 Stars *****

A huge triumph Widescreen, exhilarating, Springsteen-esque rock n roll Its clear that this is the bands breakthrough moment.
Evening Standard 5 Stars *****

A magnificent musical voyage An early contender for the upper reaches of those end-of-year lists.
The Sun – 5 Stars *****

Granduciel is a master of slowly shifting textures Imagine Bob Dylan singing Tom Petty songs, backed by a combination of Avalon-era Roxy Music and the E Street Band.
Sunday Times (Album of the Week)

Gorgeous, fully realised third from Adam Granduciels ambient rockers.
Uncut 8/10

Everything is delivered with a wondrous sadness… Its a record for dusk, for dawn, and for all the dark corners in which you might find yourself in between.
Q Magazine – 4 Stars ****

Right to the final note Lost In The Dream is a triumph of emotive feel and detail.

Adam Granduciel combines 80s-style rock with 70s kosmische music. Imagine Neu! covering Dancing In The Dark.
The Guardian 4 Stars ****

Combines the narrative style of 70s Dylan with the sonic clarity of 80s pop-rock and the narcotic haze of psychedelia An album that gets deeper on each listen.

ALBUM RELEASE // Songs: Ohia ‘Didn’t It Rain’ Deluxe Reissue Out Now

“This is the sound of Molina standing on the brink of something. He didn’t seem to know quite what yet, and that stark uncertainty imbues Didn’t It Rain with a sickening yet heroic alchemy: the ability to make smallness and helplessness feel somehow brave.”

Pitchfork “Best New Reissue”

12 years after its initial release, we are proud share with you the deluxe reissue of Songs: Ohia’s Didn’t It Rain, out now worldwide. The album is Jason Molina’s first perfect record and an ode to the Midwest Rust Belt under which Molina was born and Molina’s newfound Chicago home. This expanded reissue presents Molina’s home demos of the record, eight previously unreleased tracks, complete with a distant playground full of children chiming in the background for a few songs. The glorious juxtaposition of Molina’s songs’ desolation and the blissful playing of children is about as haunting as it gets. Listen to an alternate unheard version of “Ring the Bell” above or here on Youtube / Soundcloud.

You can purchase the special deluxe bundle including 2xLP, 2xCD, download codes, and a giant 27″ x 39″ Didn’t It Rain cinema style poster via SC Distribution. The reissue is also available via iTunes, Amazon, and your local record store.
