LISTEN // Gardens & Villa’s ‘Music For Dogs’ Now Streaming On Noisey, Album Out Aug. 21st

Gardens & Villa’s new album, Music For Dogs, is now streaming via Noisey. It’ll be up until the record’s release next Friday, August 21st via Secretly Canadian. And if you haven’t yet watched Maximize, a short film about the band’s new record by director David Del Sur and cinematographer SL Perlin, please do so above!

“We thought the label would drop us.. Our girlfriends dropped us. Our drummer of six years left. We were broke and we sort of came home with a feeling of “is this the end?” That’s when Adam and I decided to move to LA and give it one last hurrah. We felt like we wanted to go out with a bang and make the album we always wanted to make! For us and for the sake of love and fun. We immediately started recording demos and sent them to our label desperately hoping they would finance us and give us another chance. I remember when we showed them the demos of Everybody” and “Fixations” and they kind of freaked out. We wanted to redeem ourselves and everything sort of fell into place! We discovered a lot and fell back in love with the craft. We tracked most of the record live, to tape (like our first LP), and did almost all of it in seven days. So happy to get it out there.”
Chris Lynch (of Gardens & Villa)

Gardens & Villa will begin their U.S. tour in mid-September, with performances spanning three months and the entire country. All tour dates are below.

WATCH // Gardens & Villa Promote Upcoming Album ‘Music For Dogs’ With ‘Maximize’ Documentary

“Are machines making me less me, or am I more because of machines?”

In anticipation of their upcoming album Music For Dogs, Gardens & Villa teamed up with director David Del Sur and cinematographer SL Perlin for the mini-doc ‘Maximize’. Shot purely on a 35mm and Super 8, it “presents Los Angeles as if viewed through the eyes of 1920s avant-garde provocateurs Dziga Vertov and Sergei Eisenstein, giving an insight into the ideas, doubts and reflections swirling around the bands’ heads as they wrote and recorded their new LP, Music For Dogs” (Via HUCK Magazine)

LISTEN // Gardens & Villa Share Track “Everybody” Via Stereogum, Album ‘Music For Dogs’ Out 8/21

While the release of Gardens & Villa new album, Music For Dogs, is still a few weeks away, you can now alleviate the pains of waiting with their new single, “Everybody”, via Stereogum. Coating social commentary in undulating piano, the song broaches the subject of social dissipation in a digitized world, hinting at a desire for something more real. ‘“Everybody” is a song inspired by our modern love lives,” says Gardens & Villa’s Chris Lynch. “Technology fueled jealousy, lust, vanity, voyeurism, and network personas, topped off with a personal curiosity and willingness to participate in what often resembles science fiction.” As with each song on Music For Dogs, Everybody aligns with Gardens & Villa search for unison between intimacy and personhood. Check out “Everybody” above or via Stereogum.

WATCH // Gardens & Villa Release Video For “Fixations” Via Fader, Album ‘Music For Dogs’ Out August 21

“Santa Barbara-to-L.A.’s Gardens & Villa are dropping Music For Dogs this August 21st, and the video for “Fixations” is as good a trailer as we could hope for. E-cigs, freed nipples, and at least one drone bounce around a basement party in purgatory, while songwriters Chris Lynch and Adam Rasmussen lurch around trying to find meaning through sun-drenched 70s-leaning rock”
The Fader

E-cigs, freed nipples, drones… what else did you expect from a Gardens & Villa music video? With more than a month to go before their new album Music For Dogs drops August 21, the band has released the music video for “Fixations”, directed by Austin Kearns. The bizarre, psychedelic video features G&V stumbling upon an e-cig and drug-fueled party, featuring a Segway-cruising Einstein/Warholian menace, portrayed by none other than Foxygen’s Sam France. Check it above or on the band’s Youtube channel.

WATCH // Cayucas Share “Moony Eyed Walrus” Video, ‘Dancing At The Blue Lagoon’ Out 6/23

[Cayucas] new single Moony Eyed Walrus brings a more refined but nonetheless infectious energy. It’s the kind of rock music that the summer beckons and we predict this will be on heavy rotation this year.
Cool Hunting

The surf is gnarly on this song, with groovy guitar stabs, big drums, and sweeps crashing together to propel the track forward. A couple of head-bobbing breakdowns are definitely worth mention too. The time away has done them well.
Stereogum

Because tropical + jangly / breezy = summer song. Period.
Esquire

Dancing at the Blue Lagoon, the new album from Cayucas, is out June 23rd on Secretly Canadian. The band has already shared the summery pop perfect lead single, ‘Moony Eyed Walrus’, which takes surf guitar into fragmented, unpredictable places. The song’s new video, filmed in Big Sur’s Limekiln State Park, north of Cayucos, the band’s namesake town, sees Zach and Ben Yudin carrying a surfboard amongst lush greenery, waterfalls and redwoods that epitomize the beauty of Cayucas’ former home and wonderfully complement the sun-drenched, jangly California vibes of their music. The Wall Street Journal describes ‘Moony Eyed Walrus’ as “effervescent.”
Director Nolan Goff says, “It started with Zach sending me the Pixies‘ ‘Velouria’ video which is pretty simple and off-the-wall, and we decided to try a kind of spooky, little surf film. One that’s more about the forest standing between, than the beach on the other side.”

Cayucas will embark on a massive tour in support of Dancing at the Blue Lagoon starting next month. The North American dates are bookended by a special KCRW Summer Nights performance and a stop at Music Fest NW. A full list of shows is below after the jump.
