Released this week, Windsor for the Derby is featured on the soundtrack for Marie Antoinette – the new Sofia Coppola film. Their contribution, “Melody Of A Fallen Tree” (from 2004′s We Fight Til Death) is in good company along side The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Bow Wow Wow, Gang of Four as well as a slew of other like minds.

To celebrate the collaboration, there will be a party hosted by Filter at the Hiro Lounge in the Maritime Hotel New York on November 2nd. WFTD will share the stage with Bow Wow Wow. Gang of Four’s David Allen will DJ between sets.

The movie is slated for release on October 20th.

WINDSOR FOR THE DERBY – Prepares Reissues, Appears On Compilations

While toiling away on their new opus – tentatively titled How We Lost – our pals in the 6th borough, Windsor For The Derby have re-packaged their first two records:

Calm Hades Float
Minnie Greutzfeldt

Both feature re-tooled artwork, newly unearthed bonus material and the long-lost Metropolitan Then Poland EP. Both are due August 22nd on Secretly Canadian.

In the mean time, new WFTD and related material can be heard on:

Montreal’s Emoragei recently released the Je T’ Aime compilation which features WFTD’s cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Highway Kind”. It’s limited to 1000 and sure to sell out quickly.

Additionally, Dan Matz has a song , “Being Not Becoming,” on the fantastic Amish Records comp And to the Disciples That Remain…. The collection also contains a track by Oakley Hall who happen to have WFTD’s 1st drummer (of 11), Greg “Popcorn” Anderson.

Windsor For The Derby release 12

As a companion piece to their latest full-length Giving Up The Ghost, Windsor For The Derby offer up this limited edition 12″. The A-Side features Anticon Record’s man of the hour, odd nosdam (cLOUDDEAD) producing a stellar remix of WFTD’s lead-off single “Empathy For People Unknown”. On the B-Side we find an outtake from the Ghost sessions in the form of a cover of the classic Swell Maps cut “Gunboats.” Yeah, Windsor For The Derby spun this seminal band’s reissues (released last year on Secretly Canadian) as they recorded their new album. With “Gunboats” we find them right at home amidst a sprawling piece of feedback, hushed vocals, and never losing sight of the melody.
