Foreign Born is a band that lives and breathes Los Angeles. Although it began in San Francisco with different members, they found their identity in LA. They spend their time trying to pin down the city’s undercuurents and truisms, though it mainly boils down to finding a very good taco truck.
They are comprised of Lewis Pesacov on guitar, Ariel Rechtshaid on Bass, Matt Popieluch on guitar and voice and Garrett Ray on Drums, though in their recorded material one hears much more than the sum of these instruments. Foreign Born are indulgent in the studio, in a good way, filling out their songs with many layered, fined tuned arrangements, that sparkle with thrilling moments. Their current album “Person to Person” features horn arrangements, woodwinds, strings, synthesizers, and enough harmonies to sink a ship – in a good way. FB write, arrange, engineer and produce all their own records, with some mixing thrown in to boot!
While Lewis, Ariel and Garrett are native Los Angelinos, Matt moved around a lot in his childhood, spending a formative chunk of time in Hong Kong during the early 90s (largely refferred to as our generation’s 60s).
For work, both Ariel and Lewis produce and engineer music for all kinds people and purposes. Ariel just finished working on the excellent new Cass McCombs record for example, among many others. Garret is a small-time inventor and Matt is a groundskeeper in Coldwater Canyon Park. They all love to go to the movies and to barbecues.
