Los Angeles-based artist serpentwithfeet announces his first North American tour in support of DEACON, “an intimate, intoxicating gospel-R&B opus” (Entertainment Weekly), and in conjunction shares a remix of DEACON standout “Fellowship” with newly added verses from Ambre and Alex Isley. Following lead single “Down Nuh River,” the “Fellowship” remix is the second single from DEACON’s Grove, a companion piece to DEACON out this Friday on Secretly Canadian. “I wanted this EP to feel loving and a little playful,” says serpent. Bolstered by subtle, clubby flourishes, the “Fellowship” remix places Ambre and Alex Isley’s voices alongside serpent’s (the first time the three artists have worked together) with original production from Sampha and Lil Silva. “I am such a huge fan of Ambré and Alex Isley. I knew they’d bring so much magic to the remix. It was an honor to work with them.”
serpent has long been praised for his magnetic live shows, and this tour brings him to some of the biggest venues he’s ever played, including Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, New York’s Webster Hall, Chicago’s Thalia Hall, Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre, and more. Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 5 at 10am local time and are available here.
Lauded by TIME, Billboard, Rolling Stone, and more as one of the year’s best albums so far, DEACON highlights serpentwithfeet’s growth as a songwriter, embracing straightforward approaches to expression. A study delving into Black, gay love and the tenderness present in the best companionships, romantic or otherwise, serpent approached DEACON with an undeniable passion and reverence for the genre of R&B, following in the tradition of artists whose gifts were helmed in the Black church.
