Damien Jurados new album The Horizon Just Laughed arrived in stores today via Secretly Canadian. The album — which will be available to stream via Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora on July 6th — has been earning great press, from outlets including NPR Musics New Music Friday, The Wall Street Journal, Exclaim!, Paste, All Music, Brooklyn Vegan, and more. Today, Jurado also shared a stream of song “Percy Faith,” which follows the previously released, additional album tracks “Allocate” and “Over Rainbows and Rainier.”
Jurado will head out on his Over Rainbows North American tour in support of The Horizon Just Laughed next Friday, May 11th in Bloomington, IN. The tour continues through June 4th in Vancouver, BC and includes a May 24th Brooklyn, NY, show at Murmrr Theatre and a May 28th show Los Angeles, CA at Highland Park Ebell. A current itinerary is below.
Like previous albums, The Horizon Just Laughed started with a dream. Though, that’s where things change, as they often do. It is Damien Jurado’s first self-produced album in a 20+ year career, more personal and more rooted than even his Maraqopa trilogy, as though after so much time on the road he’s stumbled upon his home. The album feels like a beautiful collage — its narrative pieced together through letters and postcards, with each part contributing to its greater whole, and providing snapshots of one’s journey to find a sense of place and connection to a changing world.
