A Must Read: Porcelain Raft Shares Intimate Details of Touring Past

Recently published in The Stool Pigeon, Picture Book: Porcelain Raft gives us an intimate look at several points during a musician’s touring life. A handful of anecdotes highlight each chosen photo. In his own words, Mauro Remiddi, otherwise known as the man behind Porcelain Raft, shares of his travels and feelings often experienced while touring alone. George Clooney, The Antlers, Italy and Blonde Redhead all make an appearance in what appears to be a very interesting and fruitful career.

Perhaps most intriguing is his stay in North Korea during 1992. Remiddi and his band at the time were invited to participate in The Spring Festival, where they would play their own songs and also interpret traditional Korean songs to fit into a more modern realm. Remiddi writes, “We were not allowed to move on stage, people at that time had never seen a man with an electric guitar moving on stage before. Our performances, and other country’s performances (we were representing Italy, of course) were broadcast on the national television. That was the only time North Koreans could see a western face.” Remiddi goes on to explain some of the restrictions put on North Koreans during this time and how these constraints affected his band.
