ANTONY Records Italian Aria, Performs at Abbey Road

ANTONY has been busy lately, recording an aria in Italian and filming performances at the famed Abbey Road Studios. You can hear Antony’s recording of Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” with the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra for Lavazza HERE. Videos of Antony and the Johnsons’ performances of “Epilepsy is Dancing” and “Her Eyes Are Underneath the Ground” at Abbey Road are included below, and those of you in the UK can watch these on the Live From Abbey Road television program.

ANTONY’S Aeon EP and 7-inch Released Today, In-Depth Profile Running On Pitchfork

Today marks the official release of ANTONY & THE JOHNSONS’ Aeon EP and 7-inch, which features a chilling cover of Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love,” that has been dropping the jaws of audiences for some time now. The album is available in physical form at your local independent record stores and through mail order HERE.

To coincide with with the release, a well-crafted, in-depth profile by writer Grayson Currin appeared on Pitchfork today. In the piece, Currin offers a fine career retrospective and an interview with Antony that covers everything from the band MGMT to a collaboration with Andrew W. K. ANTONY Preps Aeon/Crazy in Love 7-inch for Aug. 4 release, First 200 Pre-orders Will Receive Antony-curated Zoetrope: All Story

Antony and the Johnsons will release the “Aeon”/”Crazy in Love” 7″ single on August 4th. “Aeon” is one of the highlights of the critical and commercial smash album “The Crying Light” which debuted at #1 on the European chart. The band gave “Aeon” its television debut earlier this year on The Late Show with David Letterman. And Antony and the Johnsons’ earnest and impassioned cover of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love”, a long time live favorite, is being released officially for the first time.

The first 200 pre-orders the 7” of “Aeon” will receive a copy of the recent issue of Zoetrope: All Story, which features the full art direction of Antony. Zoetrope is Francis Ford Coppola’s quarterly magazine devoted to the best new short-fiction and one-act plays.

The band is currently on a European leg of their world tour. The summer shows see them playing with some of the most esteemed symphonies in Europe in prestigious venues including La Carre in Amsterdam, Manchester Opera House, and the Grand Theatre Romain de Fouviere in Lyon. ANTONY Plans Unique Symphony Shows Across This Summer, Teams With Matthew Herbert For Coachella, Curates Parisian Art Show And Releases Epilepsy Is Dancing EP

Antony and the Johnsons will play a series of unique concerts in collaboration with symphonies across Europe this summer. Presenting a wide array of material including songs from The Crying Light, the concerts will feature large format orchestras (36-52 players) presenting arrangements developed by Antony and Nico Muhly and conducted by Rob Moose. Premiering at the Manchester Festival, Antony has also been commissioned to create a stage environment for The Crying Light inspired by Bauhaus stage lighting design and considering the dreams of crystals inside mountains. In addition, Antony and the Johnsons will play the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on Sunday April 19th. For these two one-off events, Antony has collaborated with avant-garde composer and electronics wiz Matthew Herbert. The duo will present stark electronic re-imaginings of songs from Antony and the Johnsons’ new album The Crying Light.

Antony has also been invited by designer and gallerist Agnes B to curate an art show at Gallery Du Jour in Paris, opening on April 11th. Entitled “Six Eyes” the exhibition will feature work by Peter Hujar, Kiki Smith, Alice O’Mally, William Basinski and James Elaine, Antony and Barbara Cummard.

All this comes on heels of the release of Antony’s Epilepsy Is Dancing single EP to be released April 7 on Secretly Canadian on both CD and 7” vinyl formats and includes live favorite “Where Is My Power?”

ANTONY Featured On New Bjork Single

ANTONY HEGARTY lends some vocal help to Bjork on her latest single, “The Dull Flame of Desire.”

The single will be released on September 29th, via One Little Indian, in a wide variety of formats.
