WATCH: Nite Jewel’s New Video for “One Second of Love”

One Second of Love by Nite Jewel from Secretly Jag on Vimeo.

If you follow us on Twitter, you may have seen our Mysteries from Nite Jewel Video Set photo series. Did the octovomit photos leave you puzzled? Probably. It all comes to fruit today with Nite Jewel’s release of her video for “One Second of Love,” the title-track of her forthcoming album. Directed by Delaney Bishop, who has previously worked with Snoop Dog and Marilyn Mason, the video features a typical party with atypical guests. It presents a conflation of notions of transgression, excess, asceticism, and conformity. Flanked by two identically dressed dancers, Ramona works her way through the video in an oddly intriguing form. Should we even mention the Narnia-like creature who makes a strange appearance? Watch for yourself above.

In other awesome Nite Jewel news, you can hear Ramona on DNTEL’s new album. Titled Aimlessness, it’s DNTEL’s first release in five years and it’s out in May. Read more at Tiny Mix Tapes.

One Second of Love is available for streaming now at Gorilla vs. Bear. You can pre-order Nite Jewel’s debut album for Secretly Canadian now. It’s out next Tuesday, March 6th!

Stream Nite Jewel’s New Album Now, Out Officially March 6th

Gorilla vs. Bear premiered Nite Jewel’s new album, One Second of Love, earlier this morning. If you haven’t given it a proper listen yet, do so above. Straying from the lo-fi nature of her previous releases, Ramona steps up the production and people have been quick to notice. It’s easily danced to with funk undertones that see you through to the end. Stereogum says, “Lose yourself in the flickering prettiness.” We agree; don’t be afraid to get up and move to this one.

Out on March 6th, One Second of Love is available for pre-order HERE. We still have a few bundles left featuring the dreamy “lovers frost” colored vinyl. Don’t wait to get your copy-available exclusively through pre-order!

Nite Jewel to Tour with Chairlift, New Album out in March

Recently signed artist, Nite Jewel, heads out on tour with Chairlift later this spring! After a stint at this year’s upcoming SXSW, Ramona Gonzalez, the one-woman force behind NJ, will meet up with the Brooklyn group to play their first show in Boston. To see a complete list of tour dates, click HERE.

Nite Jewel releases her debut album for Secretly Canadian on March 6th! You can purchase the title track, “One Second of Love,” from iTunes now. Pitchfork named it Best New Track, saying, “Gonzalez’ voice booms over the snappy synth grooves, and a mid-tempo drum beat provides a cool, danceable sway.”

Nite Jewel Joins Secretly Canadian, New Single Released via Yours Truly

We have been not-so-secret admirers of LA’s Nite Jewel for some time now. Upon its release, her 2008 debut, Good Evening, became the soundtrack to our witching hour doings. In the time since, it has been thrilling to watch NJ’s Ramona Gonzalez pop-funk craft and production mature across releases on Italians Do It Better, Mexican Summer and LA’s Gloriette Records. Gonzalez’s airy but oft distant vocals found new gravitas and charisma. Meanwhile, the synth lines became more agile, and the bass popped tighter and tighter. And so it was that we could no longer in good conscience be passive observers to this exciting, inspiring music. We are endlessly pleased and proud to welcome Nite Jewel to the Secretly Canadian family.

Leading up to Nite Jewel proper follow-up full-length (early 2012), Nite Jewel will release the new “She’s Always Watching You” 7″ on Love Letters Ink, the record label run the team at Yourstru.ly. Each 7″ purchase comes with with a handwritten letter from Gonzalez, secret links to “making of” videos, and a $1 donation to the Lauren Abramson Memorial Fund to benefit Citizen Schools of California. While the 7″ isn’t due until Dec. 7, you can hear and purchase “She’s Always Watching You” right now at Yourstru.ly’s Bandcamp site. The song’s stuttered 80s synth-R&B melodies unfold and unfold into one another in ways both giddy and nonchalant — a perfect primer for next year’s record.

Nite Jewel also has a handful of dates in Europe and New York City starting at the end of October:
