WATCH // Cayucas Share “Moony Eyed Walrus” Video, ‘Dancing At The Blue Lagoon’ Out 6/23

[Cayucas] new single Moony Eyed Walrus brings a more refined but nonetheless infectious energy. It’s the kind of rock music that the summer beckons and we predict this will be on heavy rotation this year.
Cool Hunting

The surf is gnarly on this song, with groovy guitar stabs, big drums, and sweeps crashing together to propel the track forward. A couple of head-bobbing breakdowns are definitely worth mention too. The time away has done them well.

Because tropical + jangly / breezy = summer song. Period.

Dancing at the Blue Lagoon, the new album from Cayucas, is out June 23rd on Secretly Canadian. The band has already shared the summery pop perfect lead single, ‘Moony Eyed Walrus’, which takes surf guitar into fragmented, unpredictable places. The song’s new video, filmed in Big Sur’s Limekiln State Park, north of Cayucos, the band’s namesake town, sees Zach and Ben Yudin carrying a surfboard amongst lush greenery, waterfalls and redwoods that epitomize the beauty of Cayucas’ former home and wonderfully complement the sun-drenched, jangly California vibes of their music. The Wall Street Journal describes ‘Moony Eyed Walrus’ as “effervescent.”
Director Nolan Goff says, “It started with Zach sending me the Pixies‘ ‘Velouria’ video which is pretty simple and off-the-wall, and we decided to try a kind of spooky, little surf film. One that’s more about the forest standing between, than the beach on the other side.”

Cayucas will embark on a massive tour in support of Dancing at the Blue Lagoon starting next month. The North American dates are bookended by a special KCRW Summer Nights performance and a stop at Music Fest NW. A full list of shows is below after the jump.

Pre-order Dancing at the Blue Lagoon via SCD, Amazon, iTunes, or your local record store.

Secretly Canadian and Other Indiana Music Businesses Respond to the Indiana RFRA

Secretly Canadian co-signed this statement today:

We are a group of independent record labels and music businesses based in Indiana. We are deeply disappointed with the recent passage of the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the message that it sends to those both in and out of our state. At the very least, this is a poorly written and unnecessary piece of legislation. At the worst, it provides a path to legal discrimination.

We join the chorus of Indiana residents and businesses calling on Governor Mike Pence and the Indiana General Assembly to repeal the IRFRA. Additionally, we appeal to our state government leaders to enact legislation clearly protecting the civil liberties of LGBT individuals to assure that none of our employees or neighbors may be discriminated against due to sexual orientation or gender identity.

Some businesses and individuals have taken action to suspend or reduce participation in Indiana’s economy. While this sort of action is well-intended to place pressure on government leaders to repeal or fix this law, we feel an isolationist approach can sometimes be misguided. As music companies, we cherish the power which music and art can have in promoting social progress. We believe cultural events can be a great opportunity to put a glaring spotlight on injustice. We will continue to proudly call Indiana home, and we call on others in the arts community to address this issue constructively. To musicians with events scheduled in Indiana — please follow through and perform. While canceling shows is one way to protest, a greater statement can be made by coming here and using your art to influence the policy debate that is occurring locally. You can insist that the venue you play publicly states that they will not discriminate under any circumstances. If the venue won’t do that, rebook your show with another venue that will. Your performance can be a rally. We need your support locally.

We welcome other music businesses in Indiana to co-sign this letter with us:

RECORD STORE DAY // Woman’s Hour Release ‘Dancing in the Dark’ 12″ On Record Store Day Via Best Fit Recordings

Woman’s Hour are happy to announce the official release of their much loved cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing in the Dark’ on Record Store Day! For some, this inimitable rendition will have been the first time they were introduced to the band’s minimalist, emotionally charged sound before the release of their critically acclaimed debut Conversations last year. Since then, the track has become a fan favorite and staple on their live set – it seems only right that track is released from the impalpability of the internet, to a tangible 12″ on a day that honors physical music. Listen to lead track “Dancing in the Darkabove or on SoundCloud.

London based label Best Fit Recordings will be releasing 500 copies of the 12″ on April 18, 2015. The 12″ will also feature previously unreleased tracks “Sea of Silence” and “The Shipping Forecast”.

WATCH // Suuns And Jerusalem In My Heart Share “Gazelles In Flight” Video Via Noisey, New Collaborative Album Out April 14th

Beginning in November 2012, Suuns [Ben Shemie, Liam O’Neill, Max Henry and Joseph Yarmush] and long time friend, Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, aka Jerusalem In My Heart, rented a studio in Montreal for seven days to record. The session turned into the amazing collection of tracks on the upcoming album Suuns and Jerusalem In My Heart, out April 14th via Secret City in Canada and Secretly Canadian worldwide. Today, we’re sharing the video for the first single off the record, “Gazelles In Flight”, premiering this morning via Noisey and available to watch above or here on YouTube.

You can pre-order the album via SCD, Amazon, iTunes, or your local record store.

Directed by Charles-Andre Coderre, the film is made from 16mm color film archives found in a Montreal garbage container. The original footage has been modified by various handmade film techniques. On the unique video, Suuns says:

“This is our second video shot on film, while Jerusalem in my Heart works exclusively with reel-to-reel analogue film projectors. Visual artist, Charles-Andre Coderre – and visual counterpart to JIMH – manipulated the film and put this video together for this first single. It made sense to keep the video in-house, just like the music, and maintain a link to our respective projects.”

More than two years later now we are proud to present the final product, a self-titled collaborative album from Suuns and Jerusalem In My Heart out April 14th via Secret City in Canada and Secretly Canadian worldwide. Listen to track “Gazelles In Flight” now above or on Soundcloud.
